Reading Response Rubric

1. Format

1) Name, Class, Assignment = Single Spaced and Right Justified
2) 1 Space then Title
3) 1 Space then Epigraph / Selected Quote
4) 1 Space then Beginninf of Essay
4) Essay =1 Page, Double Spaced, Times New Roman, 12pt Font, 1" Border

 

2. Epigraph / Selected Quote

 

1) No more than a couple of sentences or a couple of lines.
2) Entire citation indented block quote style
3) Single spaced and No quotes
3) Author and page number at the end. (last_name #)

 

3. Why you chose the quote for your epigraph

 

1) You should state in your introduction why you chose the particular citation you did. For example, "I chose this quote because . . ."

 

4. Making Connections

 

1) Your body should connect to a personal experience, other texts we have read in class, or other outside sources, for example, a magazine article, a newspaper, a web news article, television, radio, etc. The IMPORTANT thing is to BE SPECIFIC.

 

5. Grammar

 

1) Distracting or careless errors that confuse the reader. Lack of organization or lapses in focus. Each Reading Response should be a complete mini-essay with an Intro, Body, Conclusion, and a Central Theme or Idea.
